Rajamahendravaram: Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu will review the progress of ongoing works of Purushothapatnam Lift Irrigation Scheme (PPLIS) on Monday with the officials at Purushothapatnam village.The government has decided to release water with two pipes on August 15 in single line. Godavari water will be lifted from the river at Purushothapatnam and the water will be released to Polavaram Project Left Main Canal (LMC) at Gandikota village in Devipatnam mandal.

As part of it, the contract company 'Mega Engineering and Infrastructure Limited (MEIL)' laid two pipelines from Purushothapatnam to LMC covering a distance of 10 km. The remaining eight pipes will also be laid shortly.

From there the water will be sent to Yeleru reservoir which is 70 km away from LMC point and from there 10 tmc ft water will be sent to Visakhapatnam to cater to its drinking and industrial needs.

Moreover, one lakh acres will get water for cultivation and the government acquired as many as 240 acres of land for the lift scheme. PPLIS is coming up at an estimated cost of Rs 1,634 crore in two phases. Meanwhile, East Godavari district administration made arrangements for the proposed visit of Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu to Purushothapatnam and security has been beefed up.

The Chief Minister will arrive at Sitanagaram from Vijayawada by a chopper at 11 am and from there proceed to Purushothapatnam at 11.15 am. There he would review the progress of works up to 12.15 pm.Later, he would proceed to Polavaram project site at 12.30 pm by a chopper.
