Vijayawada: The six storeyed new super specialty block adjacent to the Government General Hospital (GGH), Vijayawada, is ready as civil construction work was completed.

The new block would have all the departments on par with private hospitals. It has nine super specialty departments which include cardiology, neuro surgery, neurology, gastroenterology, cardio thoracic and vascular surgery (CTVS), pediatric surgery, urology, nephrology and critical care and emergency medicine with 10 operation theatres and five lifts and each department has a minimum of 20 beds. The 17,200 square feet vast area has 290 beds which would be opened by December.


The new specialty block would a boon to the poor patients coming for treatment from Vijayawada and nearby places, the project is coming up under Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY) at an estimated cost of Rs 150 crore and was started on June 2, 2016.

Siddhartha Medical College principal Dr R Sasank said that proposals had been sent to the government departments concerned for the staff to work at the new specialty block and the staff would be taken according to MCI guidelines. Each specialty department would have a head of the department, along with other staff.

He said that after the new specialty block is thrown open for the patients in the middle of 2018, they would invite the MCI for inspection and later apply for the sanction of super specialty academic courses, he added.

The new specialty block has 21 triage beds, consultancy rooms, plaster rooms, treatment rooms, doctor rooms, CH rooms, minor operation rooms, operation theatres, ward rooms, ultra-scan room, CT scan rooms, X-Ray room, ECG room, endoscopy room, sample collection room,

pathology lab, microbiology lab, biology lab, dialyses room, doppler room, duty rooms, duty room, demo room, CU room, DU room, ICCU room, cath lab, treatment room, ICU room, meeting room, UPS room, anesthesia lounge, nurse lounge, doctors lounge, operation theatre, staff lounge, nurse station and sterile rooms.
