Anantapur: District Collector G Veerapandian has called upon the students’ community to be aware of the consequences of anti-ragging law.

Addressing a meet on anti-ragging campaign at police complex in Anantapur on Sunday, the Collector said ragging is a series offence punishable under the law and one needs to think twice before indulging in ragging of co-students in the college campus.

He said educational institutions, the police and even parents should create awareness on the new law which awards punishment of 6 months to more than 2 years imprisonment. He said ragging should not cross the line of decency.

Earlier, SK University registrar spoke on the serious consequences under the anti-ragging act. He observed that students could only indulge in misadventures at the cost of ruining their career and lives.

He called upon student bodies to create massive awareness and build-up momentum against anti-ragging law. SP Ashok Kumar explained the salient features of the law to the students gathering. He warned that none of the students who indulge in ragging would be spared.
