In a review meeting held with various political leaders on the set up of polling stations and auxiliary polling stations at the Collector’s conference hall on Sunday, Sathya Narayana said according to Election Commission norms, additional polling stations would be set up if the number of voters exceeds 1,200 in rural areas and 1,400 in urban areas.

An additional polling station would be set up in Nandyal town, he said. Another polling station has also been planned to be set up in rural area, said the collector. He said wide publicity would be given about the additional polling stations so that the voters would not face any problems.

New voters, male 1,07,778 and female 1,10,018 were enrolled in the electoral list. “We are taking all possible steps to ensure smooth conduct of elections,” he added. Around 20 zonal officers would be deployed to monitor the election process, the collector said.

Liquor shops would be kept closed and sale of illicit liquor and organising of belt shops would be viewed seriously. Tight security would be maintained for the peaceful conduct of Nandyal byelection, said the collector. District Revenue Officer Gangadhar Goud, YSRCP leader Thota Krishna Reddy, TDP leader Tirupal, CPM leader Shadrak, Congress Party leader J Atchi Naidu and others participated in the meeting.
