Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh government’s special representative in North America Komati Jayaram said that the 10 lakh NRIs are ready to take part in the development of State. He was felicitated by officers of Panchayat Raj department at their office here on Monday.

On this occasion, he said that Rs 2 crore funds are ready to be spent for village development which was given by NRIs. The NRIs would release funds according to the works to be executed by authorities, he said and added the Panchayat Raj department has taken initiation to start the NRI cell in its office for taking up the activities.

Telugu Association of North America (TANA) president Vemana Satish said the NRIs would continue their support for State. He expressed satisfaction on the implementation of schemes which have been funded by NRIs organisations in the State. He said that 2800 schools have been digitalised so far against the target of 5000 schools.

Panchayat Raj department commissioner Ramanjaneyulu said the NRIs who live in the 50 States of the USA have been extending their support for the motherland. He reiterated the government is spending Rs seven lakh while NRIs donate Rs three lakh as their share for running the Anganwadi centres in the State.

The centres are providing hygienic food to pregnant women and children in the villages, he said. The Panchayat Raj department commissioner requested the staff to involve the NRIs in development activities and also identify the beneficiaries.
