Visakhapatnam: Senior Civil Judge and secretary District Legal Services Authority S Damodar Rao on Monday said legal awareness should be created among the girl students.

Addressing the students of AS Raja Junior College as part of legal awareness programme conducted by DLSA, Damodar Rao called upon the girl students to be vigilant and know about their rights.

He also explained some provisions in Consumer Protection Act.Senior advocate and President Forum of Legal Professionals Kuppili Muralidhar said the girl students must not be indifferent to their rights. If, they find any damaged goods which they purchased, immediately they must bring it to the notice of shop keeper and exchange the goods.

He said complaints must be filed within two years from the date of complaint. The Constitution of India protects and guarantees human rights to all and women would be empowered by education, he said.

Deputy Commissioner of State Sales Tax K Sobhanachalam explained the students about the implications of Goods and Service Tax which the government brought into force from July 1. He said there were four slabs under GST and pointed out that no GST applicable on rice.

Secretary, Consumer Protection Council PK Lingeswara Rao, Principal and Vice Principal of the College Rajsekhar and Nirmala were also present.
