Guntur: MP Nimmala Kistappa said that the State government was trying to get exemption for handloom sector from the GST and they had already submitted a memorandum to the Union Minister for Finance Arun Jaitley.
Speaking to reporters in Mangalagiri town on Monday, he said the YSRCP president Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy assured seats to the Boyas in Anantapur, Kurumalas in Hindupur and weavers in Dharmavaram but he failed to keep up his promise.
But he was criticising the Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu.
He said during YSR regime, over 1000 weavers died due to hungry. He felt that it was not correct on the part of Jagan Mohan Reddy to personally criticise the Chief Minister. He said thGSTat Jagan failed as the Leader of the Opposition.
Earlier, the MP went to Mangalagiri municipal chairman Ganji Chirajeevi’s house. Later, he met the weavers and greeted them on the occasion of National Handlooms Day.
Meanwhile, PCC president N Raghuveera Reddy who interacted with weavers in Bhargavapet in Mangalagiri town and greeted them.
Speaking on the occasion, he alleged that BJP, TDP and YSRCP parties were not taking up the issues of the people seriously. He said that while the TDP was supporting the BJP, YSRCP was also supporting the communal BJP. He alleged that the TDP was implementing the anti-people policies of the government.
Call to wear handlooms
Ongole: Prakasam District Collector V Vinay Chand appealed to everyone to encourage wearing handloom clothes and support weavers. He flagged off the rally to create awareness on handloom clothes at the Collectorate organised by the Handlooms department and APCO as part of the National Handlooms Day on Monday.
As part of the programme, representatives from the weavers’ community submitted a memorandum to the Collector with grievances. They said that the GST has increased burden on them along with the increased prices of yarn and other materials.
Speaking at the meeting, the Collector said lakhs of people are dependent on the weaving industry in the district. He said by wearing handloom clothes we should encourage the weavers and other dependent artists. He promised to issue orders to all departments to see all employees wear handloom clothes in the district.
