Vijayawada: Commissioner of Police Gautam Sawang on Monday said police permission was must for installation of Ganesh idol pandals in the city in view of the Ganesh Chaturdi to be celebrated on August 25.

He said the organising committee must obtain application from the Unified Police Service Centre (UPSC) in the office of the Commissioner of Police and follow the guidelines framed by the police to check traffic problems and avoid law and order in the city.

In a press release, Sawang said the application can be collected from the UPSC, the Fire and Municipal corporation also. He said heavy vehicles should not be used for Ganesh idols procession and traffic rules must be followed to check traffic problem in the city.

He said speakers prescribed by police department should be used between 6 am to 10 pm only and information related to idol size, procession route and place of immersion should be informed to the police by the organisers in advance and in writing.


Gautam Sawang said the organisers must keep someone near the pandals during night time for security and measures to be taken to check short circuit and other accidents at the pandals. He said main organiser must take responsibility for maintenance and procession of idol and immersion and suggested that the organisers must appoint volunteers for smooth procession and without any hindrances.
