Vijayawada: CPI State Secretary K Ramakrishna on Wednesday demanded that Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and other Ministers should visit the drought affected areas of the State to review the prevailing dry spell conditions and condition of the crops during the current kharif season.

He expressed concern over all the Ministers camping at Nandyal for the Assembly bypoll and ignoring the plight of farmers in the State. Addressing media persons at the party state office here, he said the Revenue Department had declared 237 mandals in the State as the mandals which received deficit rainfall and where dry spell conditions were prevailing.

He alleged that the TDP government is not bothered about the plight of the farmers instead focusing only on Nandyal byelection.

He said jowar, red gram and groundnut crops in Rayalaseema districts were drying up causing anxiety to the farmers. The CPI leader demanded that the Ministers must move from Nandyal to the drought-hit areas to assess the situation and take measures to save the crops. Ramakrishna said situation is not good even for the farmers under Godavari delta.

Referring to AgriGold victims, he said the CPI would conduct bus yatra from Ichchapuram of Srikakulam to Anantapur district from August 16 to September 15 demanding that the government should resolve the problems being faced by more than 30 lakh AgriGold customers and agents.
