Srikakulam: With Srikakulam city has been expanding towards Visakhapatnam direction on either side of the National Highway-16, traffic rush increased on the road at Chilakapalem in Etcherla mandal, Subhadrapuram in Laveru mandal and Ranastalam mandal center.

To contain traffic rush, the Central government proposed three bypass roads in addition to existing NH-16 at three locations. Lands are identified at Thallavalasa and Ravivalasa in Laveru mandal, Garikipalem and Ranastalam in Ranastalam mandal, Etcherla, SM Puram and Chilakapalem in Etcherla mandal.

The total requirement of land for these roads is 148.10 acres and total length of these three by-pass roads is 9.4 km. Revenue officials have marked required lands for roads and road alignment also prepared. With these bypass roads, distance between Srikakulam and Ranastalam will be reduced to 8 km.

At Chilakapalem, traffic rush is increasing regularly as it has educational institutions and in Ranastalam industrial units are concentrated. Subhadrapuram, a road junction leading to Cheepurupalli, Garividi and Vizianagaram, are also witnessing heavy traffic regularly.

“We have deputed surveyors and revenue staff to identify lands to know whether they are private or government or assigned and its market value,” Srikakulam Revenue Divisional Officer Balivada Dayanidhi told The Hans India. “We will pay compensation for lands as per New Land Acquisition Act, 2013,” the RDO added.
