Hyderabad: Chief Electoral Officer Bhanwarlal on Thursday informed that elaborate arrangements are being made for conduct of by-elections to Nandyal Assembly segment in Kurnool district of Andhra Pradesh on August 23 in a free and fair manner.

Speaking to media persons here, Bhanwarlal informed that as many as 15 candidates are in fray for the by-polls. He said 219,109 voters will exercise their franchise in 255 polling stations on August 23 from 7 AM to 5 PM. He said so far 44 cases of violation of Election Code of Conduct have been registered and Rs. 11 lakh cash has been seized.

Bhanwarlal said live cameras were being installed at all polling stations to ensure smooth conduct of elections. He also informed that a clarification from Kurnool District Collector has been sought on the comments of YSR Congress Party president Jagan Mohan Reddy and the report would be sent to Election Commission of India. He advised political leaders to restrain from making personal remarks and allegations.

The CEO said a few complaints have also been received against the ministers. He said stern action would be taken if anyone misuses government machinery. He said that the complaint against Telangana Minister K. Tarakarama Rao was also referred to ECI for further action.
