GITAM University is gearing up to celebrate its 37th anniversary on August 12. Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu will be the chief guest and world renowned Japanese physicist and Nobel laureate Dr Takaaki Kajita will be the distinguished guest at the Foundation Day celebrations.

Visakhapatnam: GITAM University is gearing up to celebrate its 37th anniversary on August 12. Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu will be the chief guest and world renowned Japanese physicist and Nobel laureate Dr Takaaki Kajita will be the distinguished guest at the Foundation Day celebrations.

Dr Kajita shared the 2015 Nobel Prize with Canada’s Arthur McDonald in physics for revolutionary neutrino experiments at the Kamiokande and Super-Kamiokande detectors in Kamioka mines of Japan. He is presently director of the Institute for Cosmic Ray Research, University of Tokyo.

The varsity’s management and board of governors decided to confer Dr Takaaki Kajita with GITAM Foundation Award – 2017 for his outstanding contributions to the field of physics.

The award consisting of a plaque and a cheque for Rs 1 million would be presented to the eminent personality in recognition of the services to humanity on that day in the presence of GITAM President MVVS Murthy, GITAM University Chancellor Prof K Ramakrishna Rao and GITAM Vice-Chancellor Prof MS Prasada Rao.

Distinguished persons honoured at the earlier Foundation Day celebrations include Dr Karan Singh, PK bishnoi, Dr PMS Prasad, Dr Sanjaya Baru, Justice B Sudershan Reddy, Dr MS Swaminathan, Dr VR Panchamukhi, Dr C Rangarajan, Dr A Sivathanu Pillai and Prof CNR Rao.
