Guntur: Total sowing area under paddy has been falling due to deficit rainfall and lack of sufficient water in Srisailam, Nagarjunasagar and Tungabhadra reservoirs.

  • Out of a total targeted area of 15,63,150 hectares in the State, the paddy sowing operations in the current kharif have so far been completed only in 6,09,425 hectares thus covering only 39 per cent
  • WG district stood first in sowing operations, with paddy sowing completed in 1,98,429 ha as against the set target of 2,36, 131 ha thus covering 84 per cent of the targeted area
  • Prakasam district stood at the last position with sowing operations completed in mere 28 ha as against the target of 28,220 ha

While targeted area for paddy during the current kharif is 15,63,150 hectares in the State, so far sowing operations have been completed in 6,09,425 hectares – 39 per cent of the targeted area in the State.During the same period last year, paddy sowing operations were completed in 6,67,377 hectares.

While the targeted area in West Godavari district is 2,36,131 hectares in the kharif, so far paddy sowing operations have been completed in 1,98,429 hectares. The sowing has been completed in 84% of the targeted area and it stood first in the State.

Out of 28,220 hectares of the targeted area in Prakasam district, so far sowing has been completed in 28 hectares, the district stood in the last place.

Similarly, in Srikakulam district, sowing operations have been completed in 72,692 hectares as against the targeted area of 2,03,695 hectares. Thus the sowing has been completed in 36% of the targeted area.

Farmers completed paddy sowing operations in 8,954 hectares as against the set target of 1,18,812 hectares in Vizianagaram district thus covering 8% of the set target in the district.

In Visakhapatnam district, paddy sowing operations have been completed in 8,901 hectares as against the target of 1,00,819 hectares. So far only 9% of the set target has been reached.

In East Godavari district, farmers completed paddy sowing in 1,42,996 hectares as against the target of 2,32,502 hectares. Thus the sowing operations have been completed in 62% of the targeted area.

In Krishna , paddy sowing has been completed in 1,23,576 hectares as against the target of 2,35,892 hectares and thus 52% of the targeted area has been covered.

Similarly, in Guntur district, paddy sowing has been completed in 22,295 hectares as against the target of 2,06,944 hectares. Sowing operations have been completed only in 11% of the targeted area.

Farmers completed paddy sowing operations in 17,937 hectares in P S Nellore district as against the target of 50,156 hectares thus covering 36% of the area.

Whereas in Chittoor district, farmers completed sowing operations in 6,130 hectares as against the set target of 14,769 hectares thus covering 42% of the targeted area. In YSR Kadapa district, paddy sowing activity has been completed in 3,242 hectares as against the target of 36,207 hectares.
