The World Adivasi Day was celebrated at Parvatipuram in the district on a grand note on Wednesday. The town was reverberated with drum beats and dances of tribals. The tribal artists from eight ITDA mandals thronged the auditorium with enthusiasm to showcase the tribal art and culture.

The tribal artists from eight ITDA mandals thronged the auditorium with enthusiasm to showcase the tribal art and culture.

The event was started by garlanding Goddess Adavithalli in front of ITDA office here by the officials and tribal leaders. Chief guest Sujay Krishna Ranga Rao, Minister for Mines and Geology Dr Swati Shoba Rani, Zilla Parishad Chairperson Vizianagaram, MLA Parvatipuram, MLCs and tribal leaders were present on the occasion.

The tribal development issues and challenges, the future and vision of tribal development were deliberated by the tribal leaders from GL Puram, Pachipenta, Makkuva and Saluru mandals. The stalls were erected to showcase the achievements of tribal leaders, tribal development activities and various schemes meant for the uplift of tribal in the Agency areas.

Delegates were impressed by handicrafts, eco-friendly jewellery and greeting cards displayed by Kurupam Residential Girls School students. Day-long cultural events were organised by inviting 25 local tribal teams. The tribal achievers in various fields like sports, medicine and education were felicitated on the occasion besides distributing pattas to the tribal farmers.
