Three persons, including a 10-year old child died and six others sustained serious injuries when the auto-rickshaw in which they were travelling collided with another auto-rickshaw coming in opposite direction near Marturu area of Anakapalle rural police station limits on Thursday.
Visakhapatnam: Three persons, including a 10-year old child died and six others sustained serious injuries when the auto-rickshaw in which they were travelling collided with another auto-rickshaw coming in opposite direction near Marturu area of Anakapalle rural police station limits on Thursday.
The deceased were identified as K Chinnari (10), Swarajya Lakshmi (40) and another youngster. His identity is yet to be ascertained.
Anakapalle circle inspector (traffic) K Srinivasa Rao said an auto-rickshaw with eight persons, including driver, was heading towards Chodavaram from Anakapalle. The auto-rickshaw was in high speed when the accident took place.
The circle inspector said the driver of the ill-fated autorickshaw in an attempt to overtake a speedy motorcycle came in close contact and to avoid hitting it, the driver took to his right and collided with another autorickshaw which was coming in the opposite direction, also at a high speed. Both collided at high speed.
While 25-year old unidentified man died on the spot, the other eight members were shifted to a hospital with severe injuries.
Swarajya Lakshmi and Chinnari died in hospital while undergoing treatment.
Local people rushed to the spot and retrieved the driver trapped in mangled rickshaw. He was one among six others, who suffered serious injuries. A case has been registered in Anakapalle rural police station.
