Atmakur (Kurnool): Rayalaseema Parirakshana Samithi (RPS) president Byreddy Rajasekhara Reddy on Thursday charged the state government with being partial towards the coastal Andhra and neglecting Rayalaseema development. He demanded Nandyal by-election voters to corner the TDP and YSRCP candidates by putting the question, “Why their leadership is not raising the Rayalaseema backwardness issue in the Assembly.”

He expressed concern over the fate of the four districts in Rayalaseema in the absence of Telangana releasing water to Srisailam project and in the context of Karnataka looting Andhra’s share of water.

  • TDP, YSRCP sacrificing interests of Rayalaseema region: RPS chief

The coastal Andhra Pradesh is thriving as the YSRCP and TDP sacrificed interests of the Rayalaseema, he said expressing anguish. He dared whether there is any party that can openly declare allotting 400 tmcft to the Rayalaseema in the event of Krishna waters’ redistribution.

He called upon the voters to back the RPS candidate in the by-poll Bhavanasi Pullayya. Talking to The Hans India, Bojja Dasaradha Reddy, Rayalaseema Saguneeti Sadhana Samiti (RSSS) president, noted that the state government prior to the by-poll took up development works worth rupees several crores and sought to know why the government did not release funds for the irrigation projects in the region.

He alleged that the state government released Rs 1,200 crore for ornamental development of Rayalaseema prior to the elections. Execution of Siddeswaram and Gundrevula projects would solve the water problem of the region to an extent. Surprisingly, the government has no funds for Rayalaseema irrigation projects – Telugu Ganga, SRBC, KC Canal, Handri-Neeva and Galeru-Nagari – while it pumps funds in Amaravati and coastal Andhra development projects.

He advised the government to release water for irrigation purposes from Potireddypadu and Muchhumarri storing 854 feet of water in Srisailam and dared the government to do away with the GO 69 even before the people revolt against it.
