Vijayawada: Human Resources Development Minister Ganta Srinivas said on Friday that the State government entered into an MoU with the US based Wright State University, Ohio, to help Andhra Pradesh students pursue higher education in the top universities in that State at concessional fees. Addressing a media conference here, Ganta said that AP students can get 75 per cent fee concession due to signing of MoU with Ohio State.
He informed that the students who are keen in pursuing masters degree in courses like engineering, pharmacy or any other professional courses in the Wright State University will be given 75 per cent fee exemption, which is between Rs 2 and 4 lakh.
He said the students of the State can save between Rs 40 crore and Rs 45 crore a year and added that nearly 4000 students are going to Ohio to pursue higher education every year.
The HRD minister said as per the university norms, each student has to pay 14,676 US dollars as fee per year. But due to MoU signed by the government, the students have to pay only 8,800 US dollars, which is very beneficial, he opined.
He stated that a screening committee will be appointed shortly by the Higher Education Department of the State government and representatives from Wright State University to provide admissions for the students. He said a team of officials from the Higher Education Department will tour the Wright State University, Ohio in the third week of this month, he said and added that the next academic year will begin in January 2018.
He said 272 universities exist in the Ohio state. Out of which, Wright is one of the best Universities. He further said the State government is planning to enter into an MoU with other States in the US to promote higher education among AP students in the US and with other countries like China, Canada and Australia.
Asked about the bank loans to be provided to the students, he responded positively saying that the government would take initiative in this regard. He said the NRIs living in the US have been doing excellent service and helping a large number of Indian students.
