BT road laid for march past

Tirupati: Rains in temple city are causing hindrance to the arrangements being made for the state-level Independence Day celebrations at Tarakarama Stadium in Sri Venkateswara University (SVU) here. The premises of stadium became wet due to downpour with water stagnating at many places despite best efforts of the officials to fill those areas with gravel and other material.

On Friday morning, heavy rain lashed the city and the ground looked like a mini pond. After reviewing the situation with the officials, District Collector PS Pradyumna took a decision to lay BT road on the ground where the march past and other events have to take place. BT road was also laid along the way the tableaus are to be displayed.
The works were taken up on a war footing and by the evening they were almost completed. Still, the officials are worried about the weather forecast as heavy rains are expected in the next 48 hours. If rains hit the city, the temporary arrangements at the ground may be washed out.
Officials are clueless if city witnesses heavy downpour on the day of Independence Day. The district machinery is taking the I-Day celebrations prestigiously and working round-the-clock to make the event a grand success. The complete official set up has camped in the city from Thursday onwards and overseeing the arrangements.
The Collector also spending most of his time even during the nights at the Stadium and monitoring the works and giving instructions to the officials. The beautification and stage decoration works in the city are to be commenced in the next two days.
The visitor gallery works at the Stadium are underway. The Collector made it clear that the galleries should be strengthened in view of the rains. He said that rains lashing city is a good sign and they are taking every step to make the event a historic one.
