Vijayawada: Vishwa Seva Parishad Charitable Trust launched food for Rs 5 for the patients and their attendants at New Government General Hospital (GGH) on Saturday. The Government Hospital Development Committee Chairman DV Umamaheswara Rao kicked off the vehicle.

VSP founder chairman and astrologer Voleti Venugopal said that the charitable trust was formed in 2013 with a motive to serve the people irrespective of caste, creed and religion. Earlier, the Government Hospital Development Committee invited VSP to serve the people by providing food, hence, the trust had decided to provide sambar rice and curd rice for Rs 5.

He said that they were waiting for the GGH authorities to grant permission to supply food on the hospital premises. Initially, they had planned to provide food for 500 people and would increase it to 700 people. Food would be prepared at their place and transported through their trust vehicle daily to GGH.
