Kakinada: The much sought-after varsity has now become a synonym for blunders. Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Kakinada is gaining infamy for as its website is showing outdated information.

The website, which is being maintained by a private firm is laden with errors and moreover the information has not been updated for nearly a year. The website is the only source of information for students.

Not only students in the state but also students from different states and even across the world visit the site to seek information relating to education, examinations and PhD programmes. JNTU-Kakinada is monitoring nearly 300 private engineering colleges, which are in 8 districts of Andhra Pradesh.

Mostly non-local students and post-graduate students rely upon the site, as they cannot visit the varsity frequently. However, errors in the website has been a major setback.

A private firm in Hyderabad is maintaining the site for which it is paid Rs 29 lakh annually. It is alleged that the firm not is updating information regularly and the varsity staff doesn’t seem to care about.

Registrar of the varsity is VV Subba Rao but the website still shows GVR Prasada Raju as the registrar. It should be recalled that after Prasada Raju’s tenure Saibaba served as Registrar for nearly nine months and Subba Rao succeeded him two months ago. And Subba Rao is still listed as director of foreign universities relations.

When asked about the erratic website, JNTU Registrar Subba Rao told The Hans India said that he was new to the office and has no first-hand information regarding the errors. However, he informed that the executive council has taken a decision to discontinue the services of the old service provider from maintaining website.
