Tirupati: Speakers at the round-table conference held on “Renovation of razed temples in and around Tirupati” stressed on the need to protect the ancient temples. Bharatiya Itihasa Sankalana Samithi organised has organised the conference at Rashtriya Sanskrit Vidyapeeth (RSVP) here on Saturday.

Speaking on the occasion, Hindu Dharma Prachara Trust (HDPT) Chairman and former TTD EO PVRK Prasad said the officials working in temples may not have knowledge about the history of various temples in their area.

Quoting his experience, he said, he came to know about various temples only after he retired from the service by reading extensively. However, if the historical evidences are collected, they can be put before the district administration and TTD can take steps for removing the encroachments and renovate the temples, he opined.

Saying that Timmappa temple at Tondavada near Tirupati has a rich history like any other temple and it must be renovated for the future generations. He observed that a movement should begin for protecting the temples by collecting all historical evidence.

Former V-C of SV Vedic University Prof KE Devanathan has made it clear that any temple can be renovated according to aagama sastra. He said that once the society used to strive for the temple. Now the situation has changed, he added. TTD special officer Dr Medasani Mohan observed that when mahotsavams are celebrated in temples then the country would prosper. The area where Timmappa temple was located is so sacred as the confluence of three rivers Swarnamukhi, Bheema and Kalyani take place.

RSVP V-C Prof V Muralidhara Sarma said that the officers and archakas, who work in temples should know the vastu, traditions and cultures. RSVP is going to introduce a course in temple administration and culture soon, he revealed. SACRIFICE Chairman Dr M Mallikarjuna Rao has coordinated the programme in which Dr Samudrala Lakshmanayya, Prof Peta Sreenivasulu Reddy, BJP leaders’ G Bhanu Prakash Reddy and K Santha Reddy, and several other dignitaries have participated.
