Visakhapatnam: Hare Krishna Movement is organising Sri Krishna Janmashtami on August 14 at Alwardas Grounds, MVP Colony. Yadu Raja Dasa, Charu Gopala Dasa of Hare Krishna movement, told reporters here on Saturday devotees can have a special darshan of Lord Krishna from 8.30 am onwards. Last year around 75,000 people participated in the festival and this year the crowd could swell to over one lakh, Raja Dasa said.

A special mandapam will be created to perform Hari Nama Japa Yagna. Visitors will enter the mandapam with sankalpam and chant Hare Krishna Mantra 108 times. Inside the mandapam, there will be 108 tiles laid in a sequence. Devotees will be stepping on each tile to chant the mantra once thus finish their vow before they exit the mandapam.

Last time around 20,000 devotees chanted the mantra to complete Sahasra Hari Nama Japam. Jhulanseva will be held in which Krishna as a child will be gently rocked on a grand cradle on this day. Devotees will participate in swinging the Lord chanting mantras.

There will be an eye catching abhishekam with soul stirring kirtans. Cultural programmes by eminent artistes like Chaitanya Brothers, Prof K Saraswati Vidyardi and Lahari Kolachela, Dr Dwaram Veknkata Krishna Ganesha Tyagraj troupe and Prof Mandapaka Sharada will be held. Special aratis, pujas, Bhagavadgita book distribution are the other events to be held on that day.
