9 injured in clashes between rival families

Nine members of two families were injured owing to clashes at Uttarakanchi village of Prathipadu mandal in East Godavari district.

According to the police, the families have been at loggerheads for a long time over land disputes but the recent clash took place after members of one family attacked those of another with swords, knives and sickles, charging them of murdering a youth among their kin.

All the injured have been shifted to Prathipadu Hospital and are undergoing treatment. The police rushed to the village to bring the situation under control and have registered a case. While no arrests have been made so far, the condition of two people is critical. Further details are awaited.
