Vijayawada: Demolition of structures to acquire land for the Vijayawada – Machilipatnam highway road expansion work at Poranki village started in the long weekend holidays. About 100 structures were to be demolished in the road widening work in the village. The department was on a spree to demolish all the structures without sparing temples, educational institutions, business centres, hotels or residential buildings.

All of a sudden the Revenue department, Police department, National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) and other department started the land acquiring work using 10 sophisticated heavy machinery. Under the Penamaluru mandal, Kanuru, Poranki, Ganguru and Gosala villages fall on the NHAI, except Poranki all the other villages the expansion was complete as there were issues related to compensation to land owners.

Heavy traffic jams was witnessed since the demolition started at the busy Poranki centre. The work started by 6 am and continued till 6 pm with police deployed to calm down the land owners.

The department chose holidays to take up the demolition work, not leaving any chance for the land owners to approach the court as more number of land owners did not come in terms with the department on the compensation for the land, and the department was hopeful of completing the before the holidays are over.

Meanwhile, the villages expressed their ire over the department for power cut right from 7 am to 7 pm, as the people were facing many problems without power.The widening and structure clearing work started from Siddhartha Engineering College (SEC) to Priya confectioneries. Devotees were angry for demolition of Kanuru Temple opposite SEC.
