Kakinada: An old dispute between two groups resurfaced at Uttarakanchi village in Prathipadu mandal of East Godavari district on Monday.

According to police here, a boy Bassa Ganesh, son of Bassa Appa Rao, was murdered in 2015. Police arrested all the accused persons in connection with the murder and produced them in the court in the same year. The case is pending in Prathipadu court between Bassa and Venna groups.

On Monday morning, a woman, close relative of Bassa group, started abusing members of Venna group at Uttarakanchi.
This led to a quarrel between both the groups. As tempers flared, members of both the groups attacked each other with knives. Nine persons were injured in the attack and they were admitted to Prathipadu government hospital. Three of them who sustained severe injuries were admitted to Kakinada Government General Hospital for better treatment.

All the injured were farm labourers. They are: Bassa Satish, Bassa Srinivasa Rao, Bassa Tataji, Venna Butchi.Raju, Venna Chitti Babu, Venna.Srinu, Venna Veera Venkata Satyanarayana, Venna Chakrabbai and Venna Saraswati Rao. Police registered cases against both the groups. Police said the situation is under control at Uttarakanchi.
