Kakinada: The seat adjustment pact between the Telugu Desam Party and Bharatiya Janata Party in the Kakinada Municipal Corporation (KMC) polls has left the latter disappointed. The two parties, which started their political friendship before the 2014 elections is still intact even now. After the issue of election notification for KMC polls on August 3, all the parties have geared up for the election battle.

The BJP leaders in the town asked their associate TDP for 40 per cent of seats for contesting out of the 48 divisions. After holding four to five round of discussions between both the party leaders, TDP had agreed to give nine seats to BJP.

BJP’s Minister for Endowments P Manikyala Rao and MLA Vishnu Kumar Raju and other leaders met Energy Minister Kimidi Kala Venkata Rao and Home Minister N Chinarajappa in Kakinada several times on the allotment of divisions.

After a series of talks on Sunday, the BJP leaders agreed to contest in nine municipal divisions. But still, differences cropped up between them as the local BJP leaders are demanding more to contest in the municipal elections.

Meanwhile, vexed with endless discussions which fetched unfruitful results, some miscreants pelted stones at the BJP’s office. This irked the BJP leaders who ordered a probe on stone-pelting incident.

Speaking to The Hans India here on Wednesday, BJP district president Malakondaiah said that they have a strong cadre in all divisions. “It’s a bit disappointing but we agreed and following our party’s instructions for the allotment of nine divisions and now we had to choose the divisions to contest,” he said.

Answering a query on stone-pelting, “Our party members are disciplined people. We are investigating into the incident to find who started it and for what purpose,” he clarified. On the other hand, a petition on KMC polls is in under the High Court’s consideration on which it would give decision on August 16.
