Gangula set for return to TDP
Former TDP leader and ex-MP Gangula Pratap Reddy is reportedly preparing ground for homecoming. Amaravati: Former TDP leader and ex-MP Gangula Pratap Reddy is reportedly preparing ground for homecoming. Accompanied by Transport minister K Achchennaidu, Pratap Reddy, who was not active in politics for quite some time, on Wednesday dramatically surfaced in the CM’s block at the Secretariat to meet Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu fueling speculations over his defection. The sources in the TDP said his rejoining the TDP is just a formality.
Pratapa Reddy was once a close follower of Congress former Chief Ministers Kotla Vijayabhaskar Reddy and YS Rajasekhar Reddy. He made way for the landslide victory of former Prime Minister PV Narasimha Rao in Nandyal by vacating his seat.
Interestingly, his brother Prabhakar Reddy, who was TDP in-charge in the Allagadda Assembly segment, defected to the YSRCP to be tipped for MLC. The defection of Bhuma family from the YSRCP spurred Prabhakar Reddy’s desertion of the TDP.
Pratap Reddy contested as TDP candidate from Allagadda constituency in 2014 general election and lost to YSRC candidate Akhila Priya, who is now tourism minister in the TDP government. The TDP leadership is hopeful of improving the party’s prospects in Gospadu area in Nandyal segment with the support of Pratapa Reddy.
He was an aspirant for the YSRCP ticket for Nandyal. When Silpa Mohan Reddy became the YSRCP candidate, he was forced to make his way into the TDP.
