Vijayawada: Jana Sena chief Pawan Kalyan seeks to maintain ‘equi-distance’ in the current byelection in Nandyal. The actor and JSP leader released video clippings on Youtube stating his neutral stand even as the TDP and YSRC were locked horns.

His stand came at a time when even APCC president N Raghuveera Reddy sought Jana Sena’s support for his party candidates in Nandyal and in Kakinada municipal elections. It may be recalled that Pawan Kalyan campaigned for the BJP-TDP combine in 2014 general elections and ensured their victory.

Later, gulf has widened between the ruling combine and the JSP over the contentious issues of special category status, land mobilisation for capital in Amaravati and quota for Kapus. Pawan sometime back minced no words to express his willingness to work with anyone, including Jagan on special category status issue.

In this backdrop, Pawan is struggling hard to shed his image as a tail of the BJP-TDP ruling combine and grow as an independent force. His identity came under question when he had a one-on-one meeting with CM Naidu in connection with Uddanam kidney problem in Amaravati. “As it is a byelection, we decided to be neutral following feedback from the party rank and file,” tweets Pawan.
