In order to train the students as per their talents and interests in sports at national and international level, the state government announced to launch 10 sports and four water sports academies at Visakhapatnam, Kakinada, Gudivada, Narasaraopet, Nellore, Ananthapuram, Vijayawada, Nagayalanka, Jangareddygudem and Tadipudi.

As part of the 10 sport academies, the two sports academies in archery and rifle shooting were launched by Roads and Building Minister Ch Ayyannapatrudu in Paravada on Wednesday.

In order to promote tribal youth who are much interested in archery sport, the first state-level Archery Academy started in Paravada,” Minister Ayyannapatrudu said after inaugurating the academies.

The state government has been planning to bring new policy to provide jobs to the best sportspersons in government departments. The government would insist to implement the sports reservations in all categories as must, Ayyannapatrudu said. Principal Secretary Games, Sports and Youth Affairs LV Subramanyam said that the AP Sports and Games Policy was the best one in the country.

The new policy is implementing in 60,000 schools in the state. The students who were admitted into the academy would be trained at international standards in the respective sports, the principal secretary said.

The SAAP selected 20 boys each in rifle shooting and archery. The SAAP is offering free lodging and boarding besides providing sports kits, playing material, nutritious diet to the trainees. In each academy, 20 students will be given admission per year. The SAAP will also taking care for exposure of the trainees in their respective sports.

The state government will give Rs 20 crore per annum to the academies for the maintenance. The Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh (SAAP) will be recruiting 80 expert coaches for the academies to train the students as the best sportspersons in the respective fields.

The government is implementing a new sports and games policy. The SAAP has identified 31 schools which have infrastructure to kick-start the academies. Samskruthi Global School located in Paravada a 50-km away from the Visakhapatnam is one of the 31 schools where the Rifle Shooting and Archery Academies were launched.

“In order to shape up the youth of the fisher folk, the government is contemplating kick-starting Swimming Academy in Visakhapatnam.
