Guntur: Minister for Civil Supplies Prathipati Pulla Rao paid a surprise visit to the Rythu Bazar at the NTR bus stand here on Thursday to check whether onions were being sold at the price fixed by the government. He also enquired about quality of onions.

Interacting with consumers, the Minister said that the state government was supplying onions at reasonable price in the backdrop of increasing price of onions in the open market and urged them to avail the facility.

He enquired about the facilities in the Rythu Bazar. He asked the vendors to produce certificates issued by the Weights and Measurement Department and asked them whether cold drinks and eatables were sold in the Rythu Bazar at MRP.

Finding the eatables sold in the Rythu Bazars of having sub-standard quality, a visibly upset Pulla Rao directed the food inspector to collect samples of the eatables and send for testing to laboratories.

Later, he went to the Anganwadi Centre at ‘Srinivasaraothota’ in the city and inspected food items in the kitchen. He interacted with pregnant women and enquired about the quality of nutritious food being distributed under the Anna Amruta Hastam scheme.

He pulled up the officials for supplying substandard quality red gram to the pregnant women and warned them that stringent action would be taken against them if they commit any irregularities in supplying food to the pregnant women, Later, the Minister had lunch with the pregnant women and found that the quality of rice supplied was poor. MLA M Venugopala Reddy, Joint Collector Krithika Shukla and others were present on the occasion.
