Nellore: The Fourth Additional District and Sessions Judge B Srinivasa Rao in Nellore Court on Thursday awarded capital punishment to a serial killer, who was involved in many offences in the district. Balaji Nagar police filed a case against Kukkapalli Venkateswarlu alias Venkatesh for killing a SGT teacher and injuring two others for valuables at Sai Nagar, Children’s Park area in the city last year and the court sentenced him to death considering the intensity of crime.

According to police, Kukkapalli Venkateswarlu alias Venkatesh of Yerrabotlapalle in Kondapuram mandal was a spendthrift and married a woman from Allipuram in Nellore rural mandal. As he had huge debts, he shifted his family from his village to Kavali and was running a noodles business. He developed criminal attitude to bail out from the debts and lead lavish life.

On July 9, he attacked family members of Raviprolu Prabhavathi, a SGH teacher working at Tarunavai ST Colony and her relatives Gumparthi Madhuri and Anantha Krishna with a hammer and planned to decamp with ornaments from them. However, her husband Nageswara Rao, who was an auditor, came to home for lunch and observed the scene and shouted for help.

Nageswara Rao with the support of neighbours, caught the accused and handed over to Balajinagar police. They shifted Prabhavathi and their relatives to hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.

Further, he was also accused in murdering of a woman in Kavali and two aged couple in Pedda Cherukuru. During interrogation, the police found Venkateswarlu was also accused in other murder cases.Additional Public Prosecutor Rafik Malik argued on behalf of police in the case.
