There are 19 parameters for evaluation like medical doctor visiting sub centres, examining number of out-patients, identifying high risk pregnancy cases and implementation of immunization programmes. Some points will have five marks and others have 2.5 marks. The evaluation should be made for total marks of 100. Based on the marks, each medical officer gets grade. For instance, a medical officer has to examine 2,500 out-patients in a month.

The points will be given to them depending on the number of cases he examined actually. Every regular and contract doctors’ performance will be evaluated. Those who get more than 70 marks will get A grade while 50-70 will get B grade. Less than 50 marks will be given C grade. There are 102 PHCs in the district and 184 doctors working in them.

They have to supervise 644 sub centres also. The system was already in force and now the District Medical and Health department is busy in consolidating the data as received by them from the PHC doctors for the month of July as they were asked to implement it from July 1.

The government has made it clear in their orders that those who show extra ordinary performance will get incentives. Even cash rewards will be given to the best performers. Speaking to The Hans India, DMHO Dr S Vijaya Gowri said that the grading system was aimed at providing better services to the public.

The process will bring more responsibility among doctors as the participation of every doctor in the system is mandatory. As the performance is to be evaluated based on many indicators, every doctor will have to take extra care to secure more points, she observed.
