Eluru: Central Water Resources Parliamentary Standing Committee chairman Hukum Singh (BJP) said that the Andhra Pradesh will get the credit to become the first surplus water state in the country by completing the Polavaram irrigation project by 2019. He visited the Polavaram project on Friday along with eight committee members.

Speaking to media at the project site, Hukum Singh said that the team will visit all the water resources in the country and as part of this; the Committee visited the Polavaram project also. He appreciated the Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu for speeding up the Polavaram project in the national interest.

Rajahmundry MP Maganti Murali Mohan said that the parliamentary standing committee met the Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu in his Camp office at Vijayawada this morning and the Chief Minister has detailed the Polavaram project work progress to the team.

Water Resources Minister Devineni Uma Maheswara Rao said that the Chief Minister has conducted virtual inspection about 37 times and visited 18 times to the project and this was explained to the committee members. He said that the government is going forward to supply water through gravity by 2018 and to complete the project in 2019.

The team earlier watched the Polavaram project photo exhibition, Polavaram project map. The Water resources Principal Secretary Shashi Bhushan Kumar and Polavaram Project Chief Engineer VS Ramesh Babu explained the team about the project work progress. District collector K Bhaskar explained the land acquisition taken up for the project. Later, the committee visited the spillway, diaphragm wall and other construction works.
