Vijayawada: Task Force and Satyanarayanapuram police jointly conducted a raid on a house at Mutyalampadu on Friday and nabbed eight persons, including five women, for prostitution. The house is located on the main road near veterinary hospital in Mutyalampadu.

Two of the arrested persons are customers, four are victims and two of them are organisers. According to Station House Officer M Satyanarayana, the main accused Ravella Annapurna took the house for rent from the TDP 46th division corporator P Trimurthy Raju four months ago and running flesh trade for the past two months. CI M Satyanarayana said the accused Annapurna was booked earlier on similar cases at Machavaram and Patamata police station limits also.

The CI said two organisers Annapurna and B Ramakrishna were booked under trafficking and Prevention of Prostitution Act. He said the police would take stringent action if the organisers force women and girls into prostitution.

He said two customers and four victims were also detained and sent to judicial remand. M Satyanarayana informed that one customer Y Srinivasa Rao told the victims that he was working as Task Force constable in Vijayawada. Another customer N Srinivasa Sarma had a criminal background and was accused in a rape case, said the CI. He said case was also booked against Y Srinivasa Rao for impersonation and using the police department name for wrong deeds.

TDP corporator Trimurthy Raju made it clear that he does not know about the background of tenant R Annapurna and the prostitution taking place at his residence for two months.

He told the reporters on Friday that he has been living at Lotus Land Mark colony in Kedareswara Peta and did not know about the illegal activity. He said the house owners can’t keep watching the activities of tenants. The CI said they booked case under different sections and will produce the accused in the court.
