Hyderabad: TDP MPs Konakalla Narayana and Kesineni Srinivas in three separate complaints lodged with the Election Commission demanded that action should be taken against YSRCP candidate S Mohan Reddy contesting the Nandyal by-election.

The TDP MPs met the Additional Chief Electoral Officer Anup Singh here on Friday and said that the YSRCP had been resorting to distribution of money in large scale, to induce voters. Besides, the party had also deployed rowdy-sheeters and other partymen, from the neighbouring Kadapa district, to distribute money.

Narayana said that the YSRCP candidate has been using his business outfits and vehicles to transport money and other gifts to voters. That apart, the vehicles belonging to the media houses owned by YSRCP president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy were also being used for transporting money to the voters, he alleged.

They further said that the police had caught several YSRCP workers while they were distributing money to voters. However, the YSRCP MLA G Srikanth Reddy had hired people to attack the police station in Nandyal, to create fear among the police and, to get them released. Also, he asked to include the money seized by the police from the YSRCP workers in the election expenditure of S Mohan Reddy.

The TDP MPs also alleged that a TV channel and vernacular daily owned by the YSRCP chief had been running false and frivolous stories against Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, TDP and contestants of other parties. But, the same media houses had been running series of stories praising YSRCP candidate S Mohan Reddy and they demanded that the Commission should treat all such stories appeared in print and telecast as paid articles.

Another MP Kesineni Nani said that they had also sought action against YSRCP MLA R K Roja for resorting to personal attacks and insulting Minister for Tourism, Telugu language and Culture Bhuma Akhila Priya for wearing a particular dress.

The MPs pointed out that the CEO had earlier issued a memo banning conducting surveys and opinion polls. Consequently, the Returning Officer of Nandyal Assembly Constituency had issued a direction to all contesting candidates, to stop all types of surveys by students/ NGOs/government employees, till the completion of the by-election.

The direction had also ordered the police to apprehend such survey teams if they fail to comply with the instructions.
The TDP MPs appealed to the Commission to withdraw its memo as well as the direction by the returning officer as they are contrary to the guidelines and the People’s Representation Act.

Because, there is only prohibition on publishing and telecasting the results of opinion polls and surveys till half an hour after the completion of polling time, they pointed out.
