Eluru: In a dramatic chase, police nabbed an undertrial, who gave this slip to escort constables at Chintalapudi town in West Godavari district on Friday afternoon.

According to police, Sunnam Nagendra Babu (26) of Usarlagudem village in Aswaraopet mandal of Khammam district was at Rajahmundry central jail for various theft cases. He was brought to Chintalapudi court by two escort constables. After the calling sessions, the constables along with the accused went to have their lunch.

While one policeman was taking his lunch, the other stood guard. Nagendra Babu asked the escort constable to relieve him to go to the urinal. As constable unlocked the handcuffs, the undertrial ran away. However, the escort constable caught him and tried to bring him back to the court.

But Babu pushed the constable and again ran away into the nearby agriculture field. The two escort constables alerted the Chintalapudi police and started searching for him. Nagendra Babu by then reached Urlagudem, a nearby village of Chintalapudi and climbed up a palm tree. The two constables reached there and pleaded with him to come down. After hectic efforts by the constables, Babu got down and the police managed to produce him at the court in the last minute.
