15 Anna Canteens to be set up in Guntur
The Guntur Municipal Corporation will set up 10 Anna canteens during the first phase in the city soon. The officials have already identified places to set up the canteens and making necessary arrangements in this regard. The canteens are likely to be set up at RTC Bus Stand, Gujjanagundla Centre, Etukuru Road, Chuttugunta Centre, GMC Office Centre, Ponnuru Road and Lodge Centre.

The engineering officials are preparing the estimations to provide necessary infrastructure for canteens. After preparation of estimations, they will take necessary permissions to provide infrastructure for canteens.
As per directions of government, the GMC must set up one canteen for every 50,000 population. With Guntur city having 7.5 lakh population, the GMC must set up 15 canteens. In the first phase, the GMC will set up 10 canteens from September 2, based on the response, it will set up remaining canteens.
GMC Commissioner Challa Anuradha went to Chennai to study the modalities for running Anna Canteens. The construction workers, auto workers and poor may go to Anna Canteens for lunch.
The government first set up Anna Canteen at the temporary Secretariat in Velagapudi. Based on its success, it has taken a decision to set up a canteen for every 50,000 population and issued directions to the local bodies in this regard. It may be mentioned that government has allotted Rs 100 crore in the budget for Anna Canteens in 2017-18. Civil Supplies Minister Paritala Sunitha announced in the State Legislative Council that they will set up Anna Canteens where ever necessary.
GMC Superintendent Engineer D Mariyanna said in the first phase, the GMC will provide necessary infrastructure to set up 10 Anna Canteens. We will provide accommodation and handover it to the government which will take further steps to start Anna Canteens.
