Laying focus on women developers to come up with technological solutions for building futuristic cities, Girls in Tech Foundation in collaboration with APSCHE, Department of Youth Services, Government of Andhra Pradesh and US Consulate General – Hyderabad supported by IBM Wavelabs are hosting ‘She Builds Tech – Smart City Hackathon’. The hackathon event focuses on participatory governance, improved accessibility to physical facilities, eco-friendly solutions for Smart City and empowering women.

Nearly 300 girl students from computer science background and web technology are taking part in the event. Sujana Chowdary launched a promotional video of the organisation Girls in Tech –India and unveiled a curriculum for the hackathon event.

Speaking on the occasion, he exhorted the girl students to become entrepreneurs for providing employment to many instead of job seekers. The Union Minister wanted a change in pattern of present education system to give students, especially girls, freedom to choose the subjects of their interest. While wishing the students to bring out something new in a two –day hackathon event, Sujuna Chowdary hoped at least a few girl students would pursue a political career.

Participating in the event, Vizag MP Kambampati Haribabu told Sree Divya, Chairman of Girls in Tech Foundation India, to inculcate risk taking capabilities among girl students. Later, AICTE Director Manreet Singh Manna said the solutions worked out for Vizag Smart City during this hackathon would be also useful for other Smart Cities in the country.

Nearly, 300 girl students with computer application background and web technologies knowledge are taking part in the hackathon. Each team is being supported by a mentor, an industrial expert and corporate professionals, would assist the teams for presenting their work to a panel judges.
