Chittoor: A section of the Brahmin community members in Chittoor district are in distress due to lack of financial support from the government. Although Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has kept his election promise in establishing AP Brahmin Welfare Corporation in 2014, none of the youth of Chittoor had received any financial assistance from the APBWC during the last two years.

There are more than 2,500 Brahmin families in Chittoor city but none of them have received any benefit through APWBC, according to reliable sources.

Former APBWC Chairman IYR Krishna Rao announced many welfare schemes for uplifting the poor and downtrodden sections among the Brahmin community. Unfortunately, no branch office of the APBWC was established in Chittoor to guide the Brahmin community for availing the schemes. It is learnt that the Corporation has ignored the Registered Brahmin Welfare Societies in the district in getting feedback of Brahmins living conditions.

The APBWC has called for applications from deserving candidates belonging to Brahmin community for availing bank linkage schemes through online. Though the APBWC introduced a series of welfare schemes, it has reportedly failed to create awareness on the schemes among the community.

It is also learnt that AP Brahmin Cooperative Society has made a little effort to enroll membership drive from the district. It is significant that no single house constructed for poor Brahmins in the city in the last two-and-half years.

Speaking to The Hans India, VK Venkata Ramaiah here on Sunday, president, Shankara Brahmana Seva Samithi, Chittoor, “The APBWC is a registered society representing the entire Brahmin community in Chittoor. No official from APBWC has consulted us since its inception.

We do not have any information over the activities of APBWC as there is no office in the district. We don’t know who is the controlling authority of the APBWC in Chittoor district. If APBWC seeks details of Brahmins pertaining to Chittoor, we are ready to give them.” He regretted that political interference in the APBWC was undermining its authority and programmes.
