Eluru: The Kapu community people took up a Jaladeeksha in River Vasistha Godavari in Koderu village of Achanta Mandal on Sunday, in support of the agitation of Kapu leader and former Minister Mudragada Padmanabham for the inclusion of Kapus in BC list.

Hundreds of Kapus in Achanta constituency reached Koderu village on the bunds of River Vasistha Godavari and squatted on the steps of Koderu Ghat of the river. However, as the Vasistha Godavari is flooded with water, the police warned the Kapu leaders not to venture into the river.

With this, Kapu leaders have performed the Jaladeeksha in foot deep water on the steps of the Ghat. Kapunadu West Godavari district committee President Chinamilli Venkatrayudu led the agitation in Koderu. He alleged that the government is conspiring to eliminate Mudragada Padmanabham on the lines of slain MLA Vangaveeti Mohana Ranga Rao of Vijayawada. He announced that the entire Kapu community will support Mudragada and follow his footsteps.

He said that already the Kapu associations have taken up ‘Chalo Kirlampudi’ programme from all constituencies in the district in about 40 lorries to extend their support and solidarity to the agitation and have met Padmanabham at his house to express their solidarity and support.
