Hyderabad: As the southwest monsoon was active over coastal Andhra Pradesh and normal over Rayalaseema, rain occurred at most places in the coastal and at many places in Rayalaseema districts.There was heavy rain at isolated places in Srikakulam district, with Kalingapatnam recording seven cm of rainfall during the last 24 hours ending at 8.30 am on Sunday, the Met department bulletin said.

According to the bulletin, the heavy showers were attributed to Saturday’s low pressure area over the north coastal Andhra Pradesh and its neighbourhood now lying as a well marked low pressure area over the southeast Vidarbha and its neighborhood.

The associated upper air cyclonic circulation now extends up to 9.5 km above the mean sea level. The axis of monsoon trough at the mean sea level now passes through Phalodi, Udaipur, Indore, southeast Vidarbha and its neighbourhood, Kalingapatnam. The east-west shear zone above the mean sea level has become less marked.

The chief amounts of rainfall (in cm) in the two regions of the State were: Tada (Nellore), Srikalahasti, Satyavedu (both Chittoor), Sullurpet (Nellore), Koyyalagudem (West Godavari) 5 each, Thottambedu (Chittoor), Uravakonda (Anantapur) 4 each, Polavaram, Chintalapudi (both West Godavari), Rajupalem (Kadapa), Tadipatri, Pamidi, Brahmasamudram (all Anantapur) and Rayachoti (Kadapa) 3 each.

According to the forecast, light to moderate rain/thundershowers are very likely to occur at many/most places over coastal Andhra from August 21 to 24. The bulletin warned of heavy rainfall on August 25 in the region. Isolated rain is likely at a few/many places in Rayalaseema from August 21 to 24. No large change during the subsequent three days is the weather outlook for the two regions.
