Visakhapatnam: The Department of Science and Technology, Government of India has sanctioned a major research project to GITAM University to do research on Triple Negative Breast Cancer under the supervision of Professor M Rama Rao, Department of Biochemistry and Bioinformatics, Institute of Science, GITAM University. Rama Rao, will carry out the project works for a period of three years.

On the occasion, Rao said that the identification of early non-invasive diagnostic markers for Triple Negative Breast Cancer was significant. TNBC was highly aggressive subtype, commonly diagnosed in younger women in India. Diagnosis of TNBC at an early stage can increase the survival rate of cancer patients.

The study on exosomal CD151 web proteins provides distinctive opportunities for identification of specific marker for early cancer diagnosis of TNBC. The outcome of the research project would lead to further research in the area, which in turn will pave the way for benefit of cross sections of the people at large, he explained.

Director, Research Activities, GITAM University Ch Ramakrishna handed over the research project sanction orders to Rama Rao and mentioned that the university faculty has taking up several prestigious research projects, as sanctioned by various government agencies including UGC, DST, MoES, MoFPI, DBT and DRDO.
