The new patients were accommodated in ENT and Neurology wards due to heavy rush as poor people are visiting the government hospital for the treatment. Antibiotics were given and blood samples were collected for investigation to confirm if the fever was malaria, typhoid or dengue.

Dr G Chakradhar Rao, GGH Superintendent, said on Monday there was an increase in the out patients’ department by at least 100 patients in the past week with complaints of fever and diarrhoea and further said that most of the victims were middle aged women.

He said treatment was given and blood samples were collected to know what type of fever they were suffering from. He said there was a panic among Thotlavallur village as dozens of them were suffering from fever for the last few days. About 30 patients from the village were admitted in the last two days, he added.

Meanwhile, fever cases continue in RR Pet, Ajit Singh Nagar, parts of One town, New RR Pet, Kandrika and other colonies of Vijayawada city. Several hundred patients are getting treatment in the private hospitals.

District Medical and Health Officer DMHO R V Sastry said viral fevers are common this season due to change of weather condition. He suggested people to take boiled water and take precautions to avoid drinking unsafe water.
