Eluru: Rallies and protest rocked district Collectorate, here on Monday. All India Democratic Women Association (AIDWA) members took out a rally demanding the district administration to remove the liquor shop at Hanuman Nagar under Venkatapuram panchayat limits.

AIDWA state committee member G Vijayalakshmi accused the excise officials of lending a deaf ear on the demands and protests of the women to remove the liquor shop. “Many women, school and college students have to use the main road and due to the liquor shop, they are facing lot of inconvenience,” she added.

The AIDWA women demanded the officials to close the liquor shop and belt shop in the Hanuman Nagar. They met the Collector during Mee Kosam programme and gave a representation. Deputy commissioner of Excise under directives from the collector assured them that the shop would be closed by Wednesday.

Meanwhile, agriculture workers staged a protest, demanding that the government should take necessary steps to mitigate drought conditions in the state.CPI district secretary Dega Prabhakar said that due to lack of rainfall in the state, drought conditions prevailed across the state. He demanded that necessary steps to assist the farmers in drought-affected areas.
