Visakhapatnam: The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing tampering of land documents of the government found that 23 ‘No Objections Certificates’ (NOCs) issued by the revenue department were bogus. • BJP floor leader in Assembly content with the probe, demands its extension to the entire state

But sensing irregularities, the SIT decided to verify 69 NOCs issued in the last 15 years. Of them, 23 NOCs were issued to people who were neither freedom fighters nor political sufferers.

“We found that 19 NOCs were given in Desapatrunipalem alone and two each in Madhur Avada and PM Palem. We were also shocked to find that the allottees were not genuine persons,’’ said a senior official, who is a part of the SIT.

Meanwhile, the SIT is facing severe shortage of sincere officers. After screening 2,865 petitions, the SIT focused on 337 complaints only and so far completed enquiries into 106 complaints. The team passed its recommendations in 68 cases.
The team was supposed to complete its inquiry by August 20 but so far only 30 per cent of the inquiry has been completed.
Revenue and police sources said the team requires two more months to complete its work as it was found difficult it to find the missing link documents.

“In order to complete work, the team needs more officials having a good track record. Already, many police officials from CI and above rank have been drafted affecting the regular police work,’’ said a senior police official.

Impressed with the progress of the work, floor leader of BJP in the state Assembly and Visakhapatnam North MLA P Vishnu Kumar Raju demanded the government to extend the probe to the entire state as many government lands might have gone into the hands of private people in other major cities like Vijayawada, Guntur and Tirupati.

“Some of these tainted officers might have worked in many places during their course of service and they might have used the same modus operandi in other districts as well,’’ Vishnu Kumar Raju said.
