"Apparently, we feel that this is nothing but a systematic discrimination against us by the officials and local leaders," rues Kondala Rao, an agricultural labourer.During their visits to our village, Anakapalle MP Muttamsetti Srinivas Rao and Chodavaram legislator KSNS Raju, who has been MLA of the region since 2009, assured the SC Colony families of providing basic facilities by using SC/ST Sub- Plan funds, but none of the works were initiated till date.

“Everyone has to pass through the SC Colony to enter Lankavaram village. Recently, development works worth Rs 1 crore were finished in the main village, but none of the works materialised in our colony where nearly 1,500 voters are dwelling. We are all agricultural labourers and none of us own a land,” explains colony resident Nagarjuna.

“It has been 40 years since the SC Colony was constructed, but so far we don’t have drainage system. And due to this, the drain water coming from newly constructed toilets and overflowing in the colony. Due to this, we are suffering from health problems,” said Lakshman Rao.The community hall in the colony was destroyed at the time of Hudhud cyclone, but till now, it was not renovated, noted Nagarjuna.

Locals complained to the authorities about corrosion of 25-year-old public water pipe connections and they immediately started works by setting up new pipes, Kondala Rao said.

“We don’t know what happened, but suddenly, they stopped works and left the colony leaving dug-up roads as it is,” he said and added that the village president and vice-president were not taking interest in this regard. Moreover, both the local leaders blame it on lack of funds for not taking up the development works, he recalled.

A complaint has been lodged with District Collector Pravin Kumar and he directed the departments concerned to consider the issue.
