Guntur: Union minister for medical and health JP Nadda said that the Centre would increase PG medical seats, if necessary. He reminded that he had changed the Medical Council of India (MCI) norms and recently increased 5,000 PG medical seats across the country.

Addressing a meeting in the Guntur Medical College, here on Tuesday, he said that AIIMS was being set up at Kolkata, Gorakhpur, Mangalagiri and other places to provide better medical care to the people. He lamented that most doctors prefer to work in super speciality hospitals and neglect rural areas.

“As many as four hundred dialysis units were set up, besides giving free medicines at Urban Health Centres. We reduced cost of the cancer and diabetic medicines for the convenience of the poor and also supplying generic medicines,” he added.
He said that the Central government was implementing universal screening in one hundred districts across the country to detect breast cancer, oral cancer, hypertension and cervical cancer at free of cost.

“We are exporting drugs to various countries,” he informed and stressed on need to render better medical services in the government hospitals and Urban Health Centres.

Earlier, addressing in the leaders at a party meeting, Nadda recalled that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was implementing 316 welfare schemes and accelerated development. He urged the party activists to explain welfare schemes being implemented by the Centre to the people and strengthen the party.

Minister for medical and health Kamineni Srinivas and BJP floor leader in the Assembly Vishnu Kumar Raju were also present.
Earlier, P Nadda agreed to the state’s request to start MBBS classes in AIIMS. He said that the ministry will complete inspection of the temporary campus, and approve for the course to start from 2018-19 academic year. Nadda met Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu at his residence on Tuesday.

He also allowed for the upgradation of 11 medical colleges under Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY) and the starting of super speciality services in all teaching hospitals.He assured the Chief Minister that sincere consideration will be given to the Fathima College students issue and the super speciality seats issue.
