Nandyal: Lull after the Wednesday’s byelection in this Assembly segment proved deceptive with a group clash between the TDP and YSRC workers on Thursday. The town witnessed tense moments when a private security man attached to a TDP leader allegedly opened fire in the air after a group clash between the TDP and YSRC workers. The police registered a case against Silpa Chakrapani Reddy, brother of YSRC contestant, and 10 others in connection with the incident.
Clash ensured between the two groups at a funeral ceremony. Both the groups gathered during the last rites of Basha, husband of a YSRC councillor. YSRC leader Silpa Chakrapani paid a courtesy visit to the bereaved family members. A TDP worker was alleged to have tried to attack Reddy with a sickle, leading to the group clash. The police seized hunting sickle and gun from the accused.
According to the sources, the TDP and YSRCP activists have participated at a funeral function of Basha, the husband of a YSR Congress party councillor. After the completion of the funeral ceremony, Shilpa Chakrapani Reddy went to the house of the deceased to console the family members. Chakrapani Reddy was said to have escaped unhurt. Officer on Special Duty (OSD) U Ravi Prakash said that incident has taken place accidentally and it is nothing to do with party rivalry.
