Visakhapatnam: CPM politburo member BV Raghavulu alleged that the state and central governments led by Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi have decided to sell public sector companies such as HPCL, ports, railways and defence units to corporate firms.

CPM party staged an agitation against policies of both the governments, which are aggressively pushing for privatisation of public sector assets, in Visakhapatnam on Saturday.

As part of the protest, CPM cadre led by Raghavulu and state secretary Ch Narsinga Rao took out a rally from Visakhapatnam Railway Station to GVMC Gandhi Park. All through the way, they raised slogans and showed placards against the anti-people policies. During the public meeting ‘Save Public Sector’ held at Gandhi Park, Raghavulu questioned the Prime Minister’s rationale behind selling of several public sector companies to corporate firms. “Modi failed to fulfil his election promises and provide jobs to youth in huge number. On the contrary, many are losing their jobs in private sector too,” he flayed.

“Of the 235 public sector companies, plans are afoot to shutdown 74 firms and to sell 20 companies,” alleged the CPM leader and added that lakhs of lives would be devastated with this kind of steps.

Ch Narsinga Rao alleged that the ruling party leaders were involved in Vizag land scams. He also demanded the governments to announce Railway Zone for Vizag. Scores of CPM cadre and district leaders attended.
