Kazipet: Notwithstanding the fact that incarnating film stars and politicos as Gods or Goddesses is no new phenomenon in this country, idolising a bureaucrat is something that rarely heard of. Amid a collection of Ganesha idols of all hues, styles and sizes portraying the filmy themes such as Baahubali-2 that flooded the market, the one that depicted Warangal Urban Collector Amrapali Kata cuddling Bala Ganesha in her lap has just left the people dumbstruck.

Amrapali, who is cynosure of all eyes especially capturing the imagination of the youths since she took hold of the urban district reins, has been enjoying celebrity status in the region that is something what her predecessors could not achieve hitherto. Along with her growing popularity, she has to face some contestations as well.

Like the Ganesha idol that went viral on social networking platforms, her modern dress style also became focal point some time ago. It even reportedly drew the attention of the Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao after that footage of Amrapali and Mahabubabad Collector Preeti Meena surfaced in the media. It may be noted here that both the collectors recently went on a forest tour in modern dresses.

Amrapali’s advice – “You won’t get jobs if you speak truth” - to unemployed youth at a job mela has also got an indirect rap from the Deputy Chief Minister Kadiyam Srihari. When she advised the unemployed youth to hyperbolise their credentials, the Deputy CM contracted it saying: “Not to rely on lies and lose your jobs.”

Earlier, Amrapali has also faced a complaint for allegedly booking 500 tickets of Baahubali-2 film for her staff.

Against this backdrop, she is in the news again on Friday though no fault of her own. With the news spread that a youth organisation in Bapuji Nagar installing the idol of Amrapali with Bala Ganesha, it went viral on social media drawing reactions - for and against - from all quarters with many a netizen calling it heights of absurdity.

As it likely to hurt the sentiments of the people, the police were quick to react. The uninstalled idol was defaced with black paint to avoid din.
